Have you ever wondered why financial institutions can charge so much interest when
you want to borrow money yet the minute you have money to invest; the interest rate
seems so low? Inflation and interest rates can sometimes make it hard to find a
worthwhile solution when it comes to making good investments or savings. But what
is the right investment? With literally thousands of investment funds to choose
from and hundreds of investment fund managers and investment companies all demanding
our attention, it is no wonder we end up just leaving money in low paying deposit
accounts.
At BolamRose we divide investments into three separate groups:
- cash deposits or savings, we call it rainy day money
- money that you may need access to within a five-year period, this may be in premium
bonds, national savings or cash ISA's
- and finally, funds that you are able to invest over the longer term
With all these investments however, the key to success is to choose an investment
that not only suits your objectives, but also your attitude to risk. A good rule
to remember with investments is the higher the risk the higher the potential reward
and the lower the risk, the lower the potential reward. Understanding and having
a full appreciation of your attitude to risk and your objectives is vital because
it creates the criteria for your investment and savings options.
Once we have established our client's objectives; whether they are long-term capital
growth, income generation, inheritance tax planning or dependant's trust funds;
and their attitude to risk, we undertake an asset allocation. This looks at the
various investment asset classes, for example; cash, property, stocks and gilts.
We then work closely with Sterling, Seven Investment Management and Investment Management
Search, who help us select appropriate funds using their global expertise, to find
the right funds for our client.
Only once BolamRose have selected the right area of investment can we select the
investment method to suit the individual client; this may be an ISA, a Bond, an
OEIC (open-ended investment company) or a unit trust, dependent on the client's
stated objective and tax position.
BolamRose carefully assess your situation and make clear and understandable recommendations,
ensuring that your money works for you and with you.
